Chick-fil-A Abstract Drawing

For this assignment, we were asked to make an abstract drawing and to consider the context for which it would be used. We were asked to make several versions of this project. I chose to do an abstract drawing for Chick-fil-A, a company I have worked for the past five years. The context that it would be used for would be perhaps a book cover for myself as an artist and an employee. All of the following were created using Adobe Illustrator.

Kayla's Senior Pictures

I took Kayla Oakley's senior pictures recently. She will be graduating in May 2011 from Southaven High School. Congrats Kayla!

Poem Illustration

In Photo Imaging we were asked to illustrate a poem or a song. I chose Shel Silverstein's poem Messy Room:
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

First Time with Photoshop

On the first day of my photo imaging class, we were shown the basic tools in Photoshop. We could make whatever design we wanted to, so I came up with this:

Alternative Processes

During May Intersession at Ole Miss, I took an alternative processes class. During this class, we learned how to make successful cyanotypes, vandyke browns, and liquid lights. My favorite among these were the cyanotypes. The processes were fairly easy, and could be done at home, as well as in the lab. Here are a few that I made during that class:

Landscape

For this photography project, we had to photograph the landscape and what it meant to us. The approach I took was how people and their surroundings interact with the landscape. I went to Memphis and shot at Beale Street around 11 pm. This was my favorite shot from that series.

Pronto Plate

Here is an idea that I have for my Printmaking class. It is a beginning class and we are working on pronto plates. This is just the image that I am working from, I will post how it turns out after I finish printing it.
Polyester Plate Printed on Reeves BFK Paper

I am going to title it "Walking in Memphis" and print it on Reeves BFK paper with black litho-ink.

Consumer Product

We were assigned a project in my Vector Imaging class. We had to take a photograph of a consumer product of our choice and recreate it in Adobe Illustrator. I chose to use my blue Ray-Ban sunglasses. I enjoyed this project the most so far, mainly because I enjoy working from small details in order to create a whole body of work. I wanted to emphasis the shape of the glasses and the color of the frame of the glasses along with the colors in the lens. In order to have the concentration on the glasses, I chose to have a "quiet" background.

Narrative

We had a project in Beginning Photography (black and white) where we were suppose to tell a narrative using only four pictures. I chose to use the lemons from the place I work and give their story as they are used.
